Microsoft Most Open in Discussing Future Plans

Apple is the leading company in the market for handheld devices. There are no two ways about it. However, when it comes to revealing plans about their upcoming products, they are extremely secretive. The company goes to great lengths to ensure that a device is only unveiled to the public when they want it to. Otherwise, they keep a tight lid on things. Seldom would you hear about a new device coming your way from Apple many months in advance.

On the flip side are Google and Microsoft. Google walks the line between revealing and not revealing future plans. Over the past year or so, they have been open about their upcoming products, especially the Google Glass. This is why you generally see them at conventions and other tech events displaying and demonstrating their new and upcoming products. However, there are instances where even Google has shrouded its future plans in complete secrecy.

Microsoft Most Open in Discussing Future Plans

When it comes to discussing the future, there is no beating Microsoft. The company is quite willing to reveal its plans for the future, along with the projects it is about to commence working on. Not only does this keep their customers informed but provides them a great chance to create hype and promote the upcoming products. Commercial reasons aside, hardly a day goes by without Microsoft revealing something new about its future plans.

The credit for this goes to the Microsoft research facility. They have spent a lot of money creating it and now it is paying dividends. Research is conducted throughout the year and you will see papers being published regularly. Microsoft doesn’t place any restrictions on the research papers which come through its facility. Rather, they are quite willing to share them with anyone interested to read them. Whether this comprises their technologies and innovations is a discussion for another time.

One of the most striking aspects of their research organization is that they give people a chance to get a look inside. Microsoft has set up a projection of how different parts of the home are going to look like some years from now. The growing prevalence of technology in homes could lead to significant reshaping and redesigning in the traditional kitchens, bedrooms, etc. You can catch a glimpse into the future at the Microsoft research facility.

Recently, Microsoft revealed jumbo-sized touchscreens they have been working on. The company has acquired Perceptive Pixel last year, a company which specializes in creating large screens. The touchscreens are larger than any other tech giant has put out till now. Microsoft may gain an edge on the competition if they release them before the end of the year. They are quite similar to the screens used by anchors on CNN.

In Microsoft’s view, the touchscreens are geared towards becoming part of the workplace in the future. This means that after tackling the homes of the future, Microsoft has shifted its focus towards the office. Whether or not their plans come to fruition remains to be seen.
