Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for Cisco -- i.e., U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, permanent residents, temporary residents (that is, individuals who have gone through the legalization program) refugees and asylees.

DESCRIPTION
• Will spend 4 – 6 months working on projects which add significant value to Cisco Systems, Inc.
• The Engineering Co-op program is designed for the participant to gain:
–Experience: Engineering Co-ops will be placed into a role based on their area of interest and the business need.
–Exposure: Co-ops will work and interact with senior leadership, managers, cross-functional teams, and other Engineering Co-ops.
• The Engineering Co-ops program serves as our primary pipeline for full-time positions

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
– Solid understanding of computer science fundamentals, software engineering, electrical/computer
– Strong knowledge of programming and scripting languages
– Understanding of networking and Linux is a plus
– Self-motivated and highly ambitious
– Creative problem solving skills and excellent troubleshooting/debugging skills
– Strong written and verbal communication
– Excellent teamwork and people skills
– Ability to manage multiple tasks and work towards long-term goals
– Flexibility and adaptability

AVAILABLE POSITIONS AND PREFERRED BACKGROUND :
Software – Applications Development
• Imagine, design, and create applications to transform how we work, live, play, and learn
• Development targets include: desktop, mobile, and server
• Strong application programming skills (example: Java, Python, Scala, Ruby, JavaScript, Perl, C/C++, or equivalent)
Software – Embedded, Networking and OS Development
• Imagine, design, create Cisco architectures; embedded, networking protocols and operating systems
• Development environment primarily Linux, mobile C drivers
Software –Automation, Validation and Test
• Design, create, automate and execute test plans for Cisco products and architectures.
• Debug and isolate problems and provide a concise description of problems discovered.
• Influence and drive solutions to problems.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
– Currently enrolled in an accredited University pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or related majors such as Math, Physics
– 3.0 GPA or higher is preferred

WORK LOCATION
– Majority of positions are in San Jose, CA
– Other location include: Research Triangle Park, NC, Lawrenceville, GA, Boxborough, MA, and Richardson, TX. Not all positions are available at all locations. Relocation is available. Start date in 2015: January 12th.
