Google Lens Updated: Can Now Remember Images, Import To Keep, Translate

The Google Lens officially begun to roll out for all users about a week ago. Since then, many users have experimented around with it. Today marked the first update to the Google Lens since its launch – this update brings a number of new features such as the ability ot remember images, import to keep and translate.

  • Similar to how the Google Assistant can be told to remember things, Google Lens too, can remember things in context to images. Remembered images can be viewed later on along with the information you asked Google to remember.
  • Another interesting update to the Lens now allows easier imports to Google Keep. Images can be saved on Google Keep by voice command or by tapping the import to keep suggestion bubble.
  • Finally, image translations – which Google has been touting since Google I/O 2017 are finally live! You can now point at images and ask Google Lens to translate them to the language of your choice.

Google Introduces Easier Method To Take Screenshots on Chrome OS Devices

Google today introduced a new, easier way to take screenshots on devices that run on the Chrome OS. In the past, the only way you could take a screenshot on a Chrome OS device was with the help of a keyboard shortcut. However, this made it hard for users to take screenshots while using it in the tablet mode.

There used to be no way to take a screenshot while on tablet mode. However, with this new update to the Chrome OS, users will now be able to press the power and volume down buttons together to take screenshots – just like they do in their Android devices.

Google has been improving various aspects of the Chrome OS as they have been working hard towards taking their Chromebook devices mainstream. While Chromebooks are being used by a number of people, they are yet to be perceived as a proper laptop equivalent or compete with other similar devices by competing brands. However, thanks to constant updates like these, Google is indeed stepping up.

Google Patent Reveals Dual Screen Notebook Which Splits Into Half

Google is on quite a patent-filing spree. Yesterday, we saw a Google Patent talking about laptops which open up automatically when they see you. Today, a new Google patent has surfaced which details a dual-screen notebook which splits into half! Google seems to be working on innovating the way we know laptops to be.

Based on the patent documents, it looks like this laptop will consist of two equal halves which can be used either as two individual devices, or one large device. Google might have stopped working on Project Ara, but it looks like their interest in modular design has lived on.

If you follow recent design trends, many modern-day laptops come out as convertibles which can act as either tablets or laptops. However, this sort of a design could bring about a radical change in the way we know laptops to be. This Google Patent shows us two tablets which join together to form a notebook.

Interestingly, both these halves come with their own set of processors, memory, battery and power management. There are no QWERTY buttons anywhere on the devices. It looks like when you put both of them together, one of them can double up as a keyboard along with touch input.

Moreover, when both these halves are put together to form a notebook – the processing power of the two can be combined to provide even better, stronger performance to the user.

While the concept seems to be quite exciting at the moment, it may or may not become reality. The Google Patent indeed exists in the USPTO, but not all patents that are filed actually become a reality. However, it would be interesting to see if Google does actually decide to give modular technology another shot with this dual screen modular laptop. Stay tuned with us for more details on this!
