If you’re ever in a public setting like a university or at work without earphones and wanted to share a cool new band you discovered, you have only one option and that is playing the music via the phone’s speakers. With Stealth Audio Player for Android, there’s now a new option, which you never thought you needed until now. Stealth Player transmits music & other audio via the phone’s earpiece! Navigating Stealth Player

Using the app is just like operating a standard music player and that’s because it looks like one. Opening the app will present you with all the audio files that are stored on your phone straight away. Simply choose the track or podcast you’d like to listen to start playback. You’ll have to bring the phone up to your ear to start noticing the audio. The audio playback is surprisingly clear for an earpiece but of course, the quality will change depending on the bitrate of the source file and the phone’s earpiece.

Pressing the hamburger menu will present you with three main options to sort the files which are All files, Videos & Folders. While All files just shows a list of all the files that are recognised as audio files, Folders allows you to navigate files stored in folders. The app also lets users block certain folders from showing up in the list to make navigation easier.

The audio playback is surprisingly clear for an earpiece but of course, the quality will change depending on the bitrate of the source file and the phone’s earpiece. Note that this app strictly plays audio only through the earpiece and does not aim to replace your stock music player. The app is pretty regularly updated and the most recent update brought the ability to playback audio from video files stored on your phone.

Downside

While the app is quite easy to navigate and use, a proper UI with an Artist, Album & Genre view would be preferable to folders. Buttons like repeat and shuffle are also nice features which I wish the app had. Additionally, I’ve also encountered a bug where the audio just starts playing without any prompt from my side. Hopefully, these things get sorted out with future updates.

Conclusion

All said it’s still a pretty handy app for carrying out a singular task which is transmitting music using the phone’s earpiece and it makes me wish I had this during my undergraduate years.
