Get This App: Buy the Items on Your Favorite Shows

How would you like to own that outfit your favorite TV character wore in the latest episode? Or maybe a watch, smartphone or other gadget they were using on the show? Apparently the people over at Get This Corp. had the same idea when they launched a special iTunes app that allows users to order some of the things they see on their favorite shows.

The Get This app, designed by Get This Corp founder and CEO Lisa Farris, merges entertainment and commerce in a unique, innovative way. It is currently free to download. The app shows TV viewers purchasable items on their iPad. The items are synced with the show you are watching.

Get This Corp. works with the TV shows’ production staffs in order to be informed of what items will be featured on every episode. For the time being, the app works with a limited number of shows, most notably with “The Carrie Diaries” and hit political drama “Scandal,” starring Kerry Washington.

So when you are watching your favorite shows on TV and a featured item appears, it pops up on your iPad screen. The idea is that if Washington’s character Olivia Pope wears a beautiful dress or those iconic opera gloves, the items appear on the screen to allow you to buy them.

The app allows you to search for items by show and episode, but also by cast and character. On one of the most recent episodes of “Scandal,” for instance, there were about 80 items available for purchase through the app. It has three shopping options: Original items on the show, Stylist Picks similar to the original items on the show, and Affordable, which allows you to get the same look for less money.

The app is expected to include three brand new shows and several specials as of this July, Farris announced recently. Get This Corp. is also planning to move forward and expand their collaboration with producers and networks in order to add more shows and events.

Mailbox For Ipad In The Works

When I first got wind of Mailbox, the new mail app for the iPhone, in February, my curiosity got the better of me (as it usually does). Truth be told, I have had no issues with the default mail app on the iPhone and the iPad. The hype surrounding Mailbox did send me to the App Store rather quickly, though. I was made to go through a course in patience, however, as initially, while the app was available to download, users were given access on a first-come first-served basis. And apparently, there were several hundreds of thousands of users ahead of me.

Several weeks – and countless checks – later, my turn finally came, and behold, I was treated to a very clean mail app on the iPhone. With the tag line “Put email in its place”, the ideals of Mailbox are very clear: organize emails so that your Inbox is always clean, fast, and easy to access.

One really handy thing about Mailbox is that you can “put off” emails for whenever you want to deal with them. You can say it’s procrastination by design (and with style), but I guess it works for many people. As of today, Mailbox continues to be one of the most applauded email apps for iOS.

But there’s not native app for the iPad. Yet.

Don’t lose hope, though, as it has been confirmed that Mailbox for iPad is in the works.

No official announcement has been made on their blog, but that looks like a confirmation to me, doesn’t it? Also, that Twitter conversations does give Android users the hope that they will have their own app. As to when that will happen, no one knows.

If you have not tried Mailbox, I suggest giving it a try. It is free, and if you are okay with putting away emails that you cannot handle immediately, the design and features will really help you achieve Inbox zero on a regular basis.

Raspberry Pi Miniature Computer Overview

Miniature computer Raspberry Pi, initially developed to help children learn how to program, is going into mass production, becoming an increasingly popular gadget for small businesses as it is easily customizable and has extended programming applications.

The Raspberry Pi, manufactured by the Raspberry Pi Foundation, currently costs $35 or $25 without Ethernet. It is a fully functional miniature computer, with 700 MHz ARM CPU and 256 MB of RAM, and its hard drive is an SD card. It is provided with Ethernet, two USB ports and 1080p HDMI.

The specifications make it a pretty strong computer, given its size, but it still has significant limitations in terms of processing power. The Raspberry Pi is nowhere close to the power of a desktop computer or a modern day laptop, and is somewhat similar in strength device such as a tablet or smartphone. But it was never intended to be as powerful as a PC.

The primary use of the Raspberry Pi is not to run demanding applications or games, but to enable programming and process control. The miniature computer can be used to determine whether other computer components are working properly. It can also be used to solve connectivity problems, control various processes or to serve as development platform for software and network engineers.

The manufacturers came up with the idea of developing such a small computer after noticing how little programming and web design was being done in the mid 2000s, as compared to the 1990s boom. This was also due to the fact computers were too expensive to allow experimental programming.

Beside programmers and computer engineers, small businesses can profit the most by purchasing this miniature computer. It is accessible and powerful enough to be used as a dashboard for business intelligence. Raspberry Pi can have multiple applications for SMBs, for instance allowing businesses that cannot afford hiring an IT manager to easily test the security of their information and computer networks.

Raspberry Pi owners can also download a wide range of applications, media programs, development tools and so on, from the online Pi Store. It is very easy to find programs and test them on the Pi and then remove them if you’re not satisfied. This miniature device is a useful thing to have if you want to try your hand at programming or do other things you wouldn’t dare to do with your main desktop computer.
