Galaxy S3 Users Complain Over Jelly Bean Update

Following complaints from users, Samsung has pulled the software update for Galaxy S3 owners based in the UK. The update, which became available to weeks ago, is to upgrade the devices to Jelly Bean – version 4.3 of the Android operating system.

The firm said it was investigating the matter after receiving complaints of faster than normal battery drain, some apps refusing to work and alarms failing to trigger.

“We are committed to providing customers with the best possible mobile experience, and will ensure to resume the upgrading service at the earliest possibility,” Samsung said in a statement.

However users have been complaining that Samsung has taken too long to do something about the problem, with many venting their frustrations on Samsung’s UK Facebook page.

“Samsung keep telling us that they will let us know as soon as they find a fix, but in the meantime I am left with a phone that is next to useless,” wrote one owner.

Since being released in 2012, the Galaxy S3 started out running on Android 4.0, followed by an upgrade to 4.1. But there has been no further updates since, meaning this latest release is the first one for the handset since the start of the year.

According to the SamMobile news blog it is thought that the reason for Samsung’s update is to allow the handset to be compatible with the new Galaxy Gear smartwatch.

However these issues could potentially alienate users, rather than encouraging them to use other Samsung devices.
