Why don’t I get audio from DVDs with spoken audio while music DVDs work fine?

I get no sound out of my speakers if my DVD disks contain spoken dialog . They are totally silent! But a music DVD will playback fine. Video images from a DVD are fine, but if someone is talking no sound comes out of the speakers. YouTube plays both spoken dialog and music fine. Any ideas here? Thanks!
