Contrary to what many believe, Tor does not use the ‘Dark Web’ to convey its workings. Instead it bounces users data and identifying information across a global network of routers and internal relays. These ‘bridges’ mask the origin of whoever is using Tor, making them impossible to trace.
A good question.
Tor is an acronym that stands for The Onion Router. The name is supposed to represent the analogy of the multi layered bulb vegetable. The onion refers to the layers of anonymity protection and security designed into the Tor network.
The Tor network is essentially run by volunteers who allow their computers to act as gateways for the Tor network to carry out its role. As the volunteer computers are not listed as public hubs for internet traffic in any real sense, it makes it easier for users of Tor to bypass ‘blocks’ put in place by governments and more difficult for hackers to steal users information.
So for example, someone in China could use the Tor network to access banned social media such as Facebook without getting caught. It’s also useful if you just don’t want to be spied on by your government or have some website suddenly start trying to sell you shoes in your exact size.
The Dark Web by contrast is a hidden collection of services and websites that are difficult to access for the lay-person Internet user. The Dark Web is often used for the purposes of conducting nefarious crimes, drug dealing and other illegal activity.
So Tor, and Tor messenger are not the same thing then?
Correct.
Tor is the anonymity network, and Tor Messenger is a standalone program/app, that uses Tor.
No.
Tor messenger is still in Beta. That means while it does work, it’s not completely finished and still might have some bugs and creases that need straightened out. The official blog post detailing the release has this to say about it:
“Our current focus is security, robustness and user experience. We will be fixing bugs and releasing updates as appropriate…As such, don’t rely on this product for strong anonymity just yet.”
So be warned, it might not be completely secure, just yet.
It depends on what part of the US government you think is right. The US senate just passed the controversial CISA bill that gives the government greater abilities to gather and share web traffic data. Ostensibly CISA is supposed to help combat terrorism and cybercrime. That said, 22 of the world’s largest tech companies, and even the Department of Homeland Security came out against what some referred to as a ‘snoopers’ charter. Tor Messenger was also released the same week that the EU passed another controversial bill on Net Neutrality.
At the same time, Tor has been partially funded by the US Department of Defense. Go figure.
That the beta version of Tor Messenger has grabbed so much attention in the tech world and beyond has only highlighted the ‘worries people have that chats and other clients are being snooped on,’
Time will tell how good the final version will actually prove to be.

However, sometimes you will find that most of the first page is filled with similar information – only from different sites and you aren’t actually getting what you’re looking for.
However, sometimes the second or third page contains very different results with unique stories from smaller blogs and personal sites. Unfortunately, many people don’t even bother to look into the these secondary result pages that might contain more valuable and richer insights.
For example, when searching for news and past incidents, the first few results are always factual. But for deeper investigation and research you must look at second result page.
Google search still employs old pagination technique where you have to click to view second results page even when auto-loading has become mature enough to be used in general sites. But we can automatic load next Google results search page with the help of few extensions:
As its name suggests, it automatically loads next pages when you reach the end of a page. It works on a ton of sites like Google, Yahoo, Amazon etc. This extension is available for Firefox, Chrome, Safari and Opera. For people who aren’t using Chrome, run this one. If you’re a Chrome user, however, consider trying the next one.
This one is developed primarily for Chrome but it also offers Safari and Opera support. It is derivative of Autopagerize, and both functions very similarly to each other.
This one is exclusively for Firefox users. It serves the similar function of auto loading the next search results pages.
These extensions exist to serve similar purposes- that is, to facilitate endless scrolling on content that would normally be divided across multiple web pages. In that, most of their functioning is near-identical! In my testing, I couldn’t find a significant functional difference in these extensions, so each of it will work fine.
Eventually, Google is likely to implement infinite scrolling in their searches. Until that happens, however, you’ll need to use these above tools. Fortunately for you, these extensions work for more than just Google searches. Once you start using auto-load infinite scroll, I bet you can never go back.

(14)There’s good news for Android mobile device fans: Google may reportedly be combining all the best features of the Android operating system with this things users enjoy about Chrome. This move, reported last week and alluded to at a recent conference, would give Google something it has yet to achieve, namely a viable operating system for the computer market that runs according to users’ intuitive behavior.
With so much of the smartphone and tablet markets (four out of every five, at last count) already running Android, its a handy OS that consumers are already very familiar with. A merged system that brings more of the Android feel to a desktop or laptop would give those fans something that iOS customers already have, which is a nearly seamless experience when transitioning from phone to tablet to desktop and back again. Right now, Google Chromebooks only accounted for about 3% of the laptop market last year; a more functional OS could increase that share.
Google has no plans to roll out a combo operating system until 2017, according to the Wall Street Journal, which affords the company plenty of time to not only test and retest their face-lift but also to market the possibilities to a fan base that already loves the basics of how it will most likely function. The real key for widespread adoption lies in the understanding that mobile devices are becoming the preferred style of connectivity and computing. This mindset that it is the mobile device, which users know and that the PC must follow suit, demonstrates the changing attitudes towards tech.
