Near the end of the horror-comedy The Campaign, the underdog candidate played by Zach Galifianakis woefully mourns his loss by asking how he could have lost since all the polls showed him the lead. The camera switches to a polling place where the voting machines are being closed up and put away, but not before they zoom in on the corporate logo of the manufacturer, the same mega-corporation who’d pushed through his opponent’s campaign and ultimate victory.
It’s bone chilling, to be sure, but one polling place in the US has already faced a software issue that led to a major discrepancy in a hotly contested local elected position. Candidates for the Republican County Judge spot in Craighead County, Arkansas, waited until late into the night for any word on the results of the elections, only to find out that a software glitch had miscounted the votes. While the software said there was only a 19-vote discrepancy between the two candidates, an alternate method of counting the ballots revealed the number to be far higher than that.
And who’s to say it’s true or not? What–or who–is behind the glitch? There’s no way of knowing, of course, unless the county wants to put all of its Super Tuesday ballots on public display, something that just doesn’t happen. So instead, citizens and candidates alike will just have to trust the powers that be who announced the issue, and trust that the final results (whenever they’re produced) will be accurate and manipulation-free.
This kind of software issue may factor big in the coming months as the US heads into what is arguably one of the most destructive election circuses in its history. No one wants a repeat of the weeks-on-end “hanging chad” fiasco that led George W. Bush to be appointed President despite losing the popular vote in Florida to then-Vice President Al Gore, but with the culpability of software–both intentional and accidental–many citizens are going to have questions about the validity of the voting process.

Yep, that’s right. There’s another branded exploit out there, and this one is causing more concern than most. More than 33% of servers worldwide are vulnerable to an attack that can decrypt secure HTTPS protocol communications, such as credit card numbers and passwords, in less than a minute.
The researchers behind this latest news, have said that more than 11 million websites and e-mail services using HTTPS, most commonly associated with a small padlock in web browsers, have exposed themselves significantly to Drown attacks.
It works against HTTPS by sending specially crafted packets to a server, or if the certificate is shared on another server, effectively performing a Man-in-the-Middle attack.
Unfortunately, there’s little to nothing that end users can do to protect themselves against the effect of a DROWN attack, as the issue is server based in nature.
In order to defend against DROWN attacks, server operators will have to ensure SSLv2 is disabled, or make sure that the private key is not shared across any other servers. Certificates for those affected will not have to re-issue certificates, but to prevent an attack from being successful, should react and take action straight away.
A fix has already been made available as part of an openSSL update released yesterday, but engaging in a DROWN attack against servers is apparently a relatively simple affair for those with the technical capability.

Notifications on Android have gone through several iterations in recent past. They are now more interactive and useful than their past variants. However, it is still not easy to handle numerous notifications at a single time. Google does provide a way to check dismissed notifications, although, there’s no option to snooze or save them for later. As a solution, we can use “Notif Log”, a neat little app to eliminate all your notification dilemmas.
“Notif Log” is a free ( Ads supported ) Android application that keeps a log of your notifications even after you dismissed them as well as lets you snooze for later. You will need a device running Android 4.3 or higher to run the application.
As you soon as you open the app, it will prompt you to grant access to your notifications which won’t take long. Once done, you will be able to access your incoming notifications from the list. Each time you want to act on notifications, you will have to open the application. Unfortunately, you cannot snooze notification directly from pull down panel.
From the application, you can use gestures to play with notifications. Swipe right to clear a notification, swipe left to bring up the snoozing presets with two widely used ones. You can also go into “More” to create your own timer for when you want yourself to be reminded of that notification again.
Notif log also offers you the ability to dismiss all the notifications at once through the floating button on the bottom right corner. The app even provides a window that holds all the notifications you’ve snoozed, to get there, hit the little clock icon on top.
If you don’t want any specific app alerts to show in the list, you can exclude them effortlessly. To ban an app, tap the “three dots” menu on top and then, click “Exclude Apps”. A list will appear containing all your installed apps and you can select the services you want to exclude. Open the settings page and you will discover a couple more options that will provide even deeper control on how Notif log works or looks. Visual settings let you alter text/background colors of app’s elements. You can customize how many past notifications you want the app to show or whether it should merge notifications updates through the Log setting underneath Visual options.
Long pressing a notification reveals a few more important features of “Notif Log”. Snooze option is nothing but a shortcut to the “More” page we saw earlier. “Advanced” shows you the application behind that entry and also, a quick switch to exclude it. “Rearrange” will allow you to reorder the notification list and if you want a notification to appear on top, hit “Pin to top”.
Hope the working of the application to schedule notifications later is clear to you. I wish Android had feature to snooze notifications directly from the pull down panel. However, you can use Notif Log which is a real lifesaver to users are aren’t that great at handling incoming alerts.
