How to Send Articles & PDFs from Android or PC to Amazon Kindle

Amazon’s Kindle has worked its way to become a household name and is now synonymous when people refer to e-readers. These days if you look hard enough, it’s easy to buy an old or used version of a Kindle for less than 20 or 30 bucks. Amazon’s long-standing deals with the book publishers and authors from its online shopping business have put them in a position to offer most of the books in digital format thus creating a monopoly in the e-reader industry.

If you’re a habitual news reader who enjoys long form articles and gets the news from an Android Device or PC, here’s an app & extension to send the article from your device to the Kindle in just two taps.

Push Articles from Android Device or PC to Kindle

Creating a Kindle Address

Before you send articles, you need a to create a unique Kindle email address that’s different for each device you own. To do that,
Step 1: Visit Amazon’s Manage Your Content & Devices page.

Step 2: Scroll down till you see Send-to-Kindle Email Settings.

Press Edit next to the device name

Step 3: Under the Name column, look for the Device you’ve named. Next to the device name, you’ll see E-mail address and an Edit button. Click on Edit.

Set a Kindle email address

Step 4: Set the email address of your choice and press Save. It’s usually a string of characters but you can personalise according to your preferences.

Step 5: Scroll further down till you see Approved Personal Document E-mail List. This may seem like a confusing option so let me explain what this does. To prevent others from spamming your Kindle devices with attachments, you can set specific whitelisted emails which are the only ones that are allowed to send attachments successfully to your Kindle. I would suggest you add your personal email address to this list.

Set a whitelisted email address

Android App: Upload to Kindle [Free]

Upload to Kindle app user interface

Step 1: Go to the Devices tab after launching the app & press the Add Device button.

Select Add Device

Step 2: First, Name your Device. Secondly, type in the Kindle email address you set under Kindle’s Email. Lastly, type the whitelisted email you set under Kindle’s Whitelisted Email and hit Save.

Enter the details and hit Save

Push Articles to Kindle in Two Taps

Step 1: Browse an app or article as usual. When you find something you’d like to savour on the Kindle, press the share icon in the app.

Step 2: From the list, select the Push Kindle icon. That’s it!

Press Share and select Upload to Kindle

Here’s how the output looks on a Kindle

Chrome Extension: Push to Kindle

While Push to Kindle Android app costs $3.49, the Chrome extension is free. Setting up the extension is the same as the app. Press the icon to bring up settings. From there simply enter the Kindle email address and the Whitelisted e-mail address.

Push to Kindle Extension settings

To use the extension, while browsing press the Push to Kindle extension icon from the active tab and it will prompt you to enter the details before sending it while showing a preview of how it will look on a Kindle. If you press Remember me then it will automatically send without having to enter the details every time.

The extension shows a preview too

In case you’d like to send a PDF, you can directly email the attachment from the whitelisted email account to the Kindle email address.

The app will automatically take the URL and make a readable link in Amazon’s MOBI format and upload it to the Kindle address. To view the article on the Kindle, go to Settings and select Check & Sync for Items if isn’t automatically downloaded already. You can also enable Document Archiving in the Manage Devices page to make sure the documents are synced throughout your devices and phones with the Kindle app installed.
