Following Mass Shooting, Google Removes Texas Church From Google Earth Street View
An unfortunate incident in Texas took place last week where 26 people were shot dead during a mass shooting in a Texas church. It was a tragic event and we at Gtricks extend our thoughts and prayers to the victims of this tragedy. In a rather surprising move, following this act of terror, Google has pulled the Texas Church from the Google Earth Street View.
This is a rather strange and first of its kind move from Google. The company has never really pulled off images from Google Earth street view in the past even after terror attacks. As of now Google is yet to comment on this. However there are a number of theories which have since emerged.
The most plausible reason as to why Google decided to pull the visuals from street view on Google Earth is because of bad press. Many media houses were seen using Google Earth Street View images of the Texas Church as it would have taken them time to reach the location to take actual pictures. Since Google’s watermark would be shown along with the images or in the credits, the company perhaps did not want to be associated with any such bad press.
However, this is just one theory. It could also be possible that Google’s systems took it down on their own because of a sudden increase in the views of this particular location due to some sort of an overload. However this is quite unlikely.
America’s gun laws have been under severe criticism over the past few months, following a sudden spike in the number of mass shootings in the country. The latest such event in Texas has raised further questions on the unregulated gun laws in the country. While we don’t indulge in political commentary, we’re waiting for a response from Google as to why they have decided to pull the visuals off from Google Earth street view. Stay tuned with us for more details on this.
