Google Assistant Can Now Troubleshoot problems on your Phone

The Google Assistant is Google’s key to the future of AI technology. The company has been moving forward from mobile-first to an AI-first future, and the Assistant is their most powerful tool towards this future that they are looking at. Google has been working hard towards providing newer features and more functionalities to the Google Assistant. In the latest such move, the assistant can now help you troubleshoot your phone!

This feature of the Assistant has only been spotted on the Google Pixel 2 and the Google Pixel 2 XL Android smartphones but is likely to make its way to more devices in the months to follow.

Basically, you can now talk to your Google Assistant about the problems you are facing while using the phone. This could include things like your battery not charging fully, or the colors on your screen appearing distorted, or basically anything that isn’t normal. The Google Assistant will then diagnose the phone and ask you some questions, based on which it will show you a few solutions.

This is basically how pre-set troubleshooting guides work on a computer. When all the options in the troubleshooting guide are exhausted, Google can then get you to connect to the customer care over call or over chat.

The Google Assistant can now run diagnostics on various features of your phone such as the camera or the Bluetooth functionalities. As of now Google is yet to officially announce this feature or release any documentation on it.

This troubleshooting is working for some Pixel 2 users in the US while it doesn’t work for the users based in the UK – it looks like this is still being beta-tested by Google and some users have been provided an early access. This is an interesting update from Google and will help more users be able to fix minor problems on their phones.

Here’s Your First Look at the Dark Mode in YouTube Android App

Google is known for their meticulous approach where they develop their apps and the kind of consistency that their apps have shown in terms of design style. Of late, Google has been silently introducing ‘Dark Mode’ in various places – be it the YouTube website, or the Google Pixel smartphones. Today, Android Police spotted that Google is working on developing a dark mode for the YouTube Android app as well.

At this moment the update is yet to roll out as a front-end update but is available as a line of code in the YouTube Android App. This means that Google can introduce it as a server-side update later on.

As of now there’s no time frame provided by Google as to when this feature may launch. This dark mode on the YouTube Android app is being called ‘Dark Watch’ by the company. Those using the beta version of the app can head over to developer settings and toggle Dark Watch on or off.

As of now it appears that the feature is still being developed by Google and is not fully ready to be out in the public. There are many color corrections which are required in this dark mode for the YouTube Android app. The dark background covers over all the text portions – which is something Google is likely to address over the next few weeks before they officially announce the feature.

Another thing that is worth noting here is that unlike the YouTube web version’s dark mode, where the entire website turns black, the YouTube Android app functions differently. Only the window of the player turns black while suggested videos, comments section, etc. remains white. It might be possible that Google will actually convert the whole thing into black in a later update to the dark watch mode. Stay tuned with us for more details on the same!
