Google Search is an unstoppable juggernaut in the world of search engines. It feels criminal to make use of any other search engine and it just feels awkward! Mozilla Firefox has been a popular alternative to the Google Chrome web browser and has been giving it a fight for about a decade now. However, there’s one thing that both, Chrome and Firefox now agree upon – that Google Search is the best search engine for a browser!
There have been a number of changes coming in to Firefox these days, especially since the arrival of Firefox Quantum. However, one of the most notable changes is that Mozilla has ended their partnership with Yahoo and have re-instated Google as their default search engine.
Google used to be the default search engine for the browser till as late as 2014. However, in 2014, Mozilla Firefox and Yahoo struck a deal as per which Yahoo became the default search engine of the browser. Users still had the option to change it via settings, but many users don’t really bother to do that.
You may remember this story from last month where we talked about how Google pays about 3 to 4 Billion dollars every year to remain the default search engine in Apple phones.
What is quite interesting about this deal between Yahoo and Firefox is that it was supposed to be a five year contract initially. However, ever since Yahoo signed that contract, things haven’t really been going well for them – and it has come to such a point that the Yahoo brand itself is in threats of disappearing now as Oath becomes the bigger name here.
Reportedly, Yahoo still owes Mozilla $375 Million every year, even after the contract’s termination. As of now it is not clear what Google is paying Mozilla to be kept as the default search engine. Stay tuned with us for more details on the story.

Google Chrome is the most popularly used web browser in the world. Billions of active users make use of the browser to visit websites every day. The browser is massively popular despite having come out quite late compared to the likes of Opera and Firefox. One of the most popular features on this browser is that of the incognito mode!
Incognito mode – known to pretty much everyone who uses the browser – is the browsing mode which allows you to visit websites without letting your browser know what you’re visiting. Information about this browsing session does not appear in history, autofill and cookies.

A majority of the users feel safer while using incognito mode when they’re browsing something which they shouldn’t be! However, while this incognito mode does make you feel safe and protected – is it really stopping the network admin or your employer from knowing what you are browsing? Think about this before you open any objectionable content in your office next time around!
The reason why this browsing mode is called incognito mode and not privacy mode is the fact that this is more specific to your browser and not to your network. The browser you are using to open these websites will not save any information about it. However, keep it in mind that the network administrators and your employer can easily see what’s going on!
Google Chrome itself displays a small notification when you start incognito browsing saying: “When you launch the incognito tab there’s this disclaimer there where we really try to help make it really clear to people that your activity is certainly still visible to the websites you visit and could be visible to your employer, to your school, and to your [internet service provider] of course”.
Hence, it is best advised to not visit any objectionable content at all, when connected to a public network and be a good netizen.
