Test Your Knowledge of 2018 Trends With Google’s Game of the Year

Think you know everything that trended in 2018? It’s time to test your knowledge of 2018 and all its trending topics. Google has rolled out a cool quiz game that tests your knowledge about 2018 trends with a whole lot of witty comments. It’s a web-based quiz game, so you won’t need anything extra to make it work. If you are up for the challenge, let’s see how Google’s Game of the Year works.

Playing Google’s Game of the Year

The game consists of total 20 multiple choice questions asking you what trended more than the other. It starts out with two choices, but the number of choices increases as you move forward. There are also bonus rounds to rack up extra points by simply answering what trended more or less this year than the last year. However, you only have 3 lives to answer all the 20 questions, and you lose one whenever you answer a wrong question.

To get started, open up Google’s Game of the Year and click on “Let’s go!” button (tip: here you can grab and throw around the words just for fun). You’ll be greeted by a virtual host made of shapes and a field to enter your name (it’s optional). You can click on the host to adjust its speed and pitch, and also get bombarded by some sarcastic replies in the process.

Once the game starts, you’ll be asked a question with two choices and you’ll only have 10 seconds to answer it. Upon answering a question, the host also comments on the question, it could be a joke or some added interesting information.

After answering a few questions, the bonus round will come up where you’ll have 10 seconds to quickly tell if a term trended more this year or less. Each right answer will give you 10 points and a wrong one deducts 10 points. The time is very less so you’ll have to be very quick. I honestly just randomly pick answers here as no lives are lost upon answering wrong, and it got me up to 60 points.

Once the bonus round finishes, the next questions will have 3 choices instead of one. After every bonus round, the number of choices also increase. I was unable to move past 2 bonus rounds and 4 total choices, hope you could do better.

At the end of the game, you’ll be shown your total score which you can share over Twitter or Facebook using the provided buttons. Interestingly, if you didn’t provide your actual name at the start of the game, then the host will call you with some funny sarcastic names like “Nameless” or “Mystery person”, etc.

Overall, Google’s Game of the Year is a fun way to kill some time and also learn some interesting trends of 2018. Do share your score with us in the comments below (my best is 385 so far).
