How To Change the Default Font In Google Docs
Arial is the default font on Google Docs which works fine for most documents. However, if you frequently need to create documents in a different font type — say your work requires different font style — then you can permanently change the font for all future documents.
Not only you can change the font for normal text but also headings and title with each having a different font style if you like. Without further ado, let’s see how you can change the default font in Google Docs.
Change default font in Google Docs
First, you must write a sentence or a few lines in the font style you want to set as default. Once you are done, follow the below instructions:
Click and drag on the written text to select it. Now click on the “Format” menu and go to Paragraph styles > Normal Text and then click on the “Update “Normal text” to match” option.
Now click on the “Format” menu again and move to Paragraph styles > Options and click on “Save as my default styles”.
This will set your selected font style as the default font style for all future documents.
Note: Do keep in mind that if you have made any other changes such as text color, size, paragraph spacing, etc. then those changes will also be saved as default for future documents.
The above instructions will force the new font for normal text, titles, and headings. However, if you like to have separate fonts for titles and headings, then you will have to highlight a heading or title in your document and use the above instructions to match with the title or heading and save it as default.
In case you need to reset to default Google Docs font for any future documents, then that’s easy as well. Just click on the “Format” menu and go to Paragraph styles > Options and click on the “Reset styles” option. After this, you can also use the previous instructions to reset the default font for future documents.
Ending words
The above instructions will only work on the desktop version of Google Docs. Unfortunately, you can’t change the default font on Google Docs smartphone apps. Although your chosen default font will load even on the smartphone apps. If you have any further questions, let us know in the comments below.
