Facebook Messenger For Windows To Be Shut Down Today

Time is now up for Facebook Messenger for Windows following Facebook’s announcement that would be shutting down the app on 3rd March 2014.

“We’re sorry, but we can no longer support Facebook Messenger for Windows, and it will stop working on March 3, 2014,” the message states. “We really appreciate you using Messenger to reach your friends, and we want to make sure you know that you can keep chatting and view all your messages on http://www.facebook.com. Learn more,” read the announcement.

There isn’t much of an explanation as to why Facebook has decided to kill Windows support for the app. If you click on the “Learn more” link, you are simply redirected to another generic message on the Help Center and the only other information regarding Facebook Messenger is instructions on how to uninstall it. To add to the mystery, the official website states that the app is available for iOS and Android, yet there is no mention of a Windows installer or support.

Facebook Messenger has only been around for just under two years, being released back in March 2012. The news of the removal came shortly after Microsoft’s announcement that Facebook Messenger for Windows Phone was due to be released in a few weeks, leading to the suggestion that Microsoft can only keep Facebook for one platform at a time.

So although there is no in-depth explanation as to why, if you use Facebook Messenger for Windows, you won’t be anymore.
