Can you recommend me a good free alternative to LogMeIn?

I used to use a service called “LogMeIn” but since it cancelled its free plan I don’t have remote access to my personal laptop which I keep at home and turned on. My laptop is running Windows 7 but not anything like an “ultimate” or a “professional” version – just your average “home” version. How can I remote connect and operate my laptop without LogMeIn?
