Why won’t my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 turn on or charge?

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, which does not turn on and won’t charge. I tried all the things listed in other threads, but they didn’t work, so I bought a new battery and put it in. It turned on right away which made me happy, but a week later, we’re back to the same problem. It won’t charge or turn on. Sometimes, when first plugged in, it will flash the battery indicator light a couple of times, then it won’t any more. It’s not charging, if I leave it a while and come back to turn it on, it does not. Any advice before I buy a new one?
