Why do icons remain on the screen after the files have have been deleted in Windows 7?

In Windows 7, while deleting files (MP3s) from a folder, the icon would not disappear. Trying to delete the file again gives an error message “this file cannot be located”. Hitting f5 or right click + refresh and the icon disappears and its apparent that the file was deleted first time round… Anyone know the cause and or solution to this problem? Thanks
