Why am I not seeing the email message with the attachment on GMail?

Someone sent email & they said there was an attachment. I get nothing. I see a paper clip on the message, but no message. I tried forwarding the message over to a non-Gmail account. I get the message with the paper clip, but no message. Is something eating the attachments? This system is p***ing me off every time I try to use it. I’d like to go back to the old Outlook account.
