Quickly Mute a Tab in Chrome

Sometime back, Chrome has launched new feature where a speaker icon is displayed on the tab. But this feature was incomplete as we cannot mute those tabs instantly. Now, with a small trick, we can mute individual tabs. Just follow these steps:

Step 1: Type chrome://flags/ in the address bar and hit Enter key

Step 2: Search for “Tab Audio Muting UI Control”

Step 3: Enable it

Step 4: Re-launch Chrome

Click Icon to Mute

That’s all. Now you can click on little speaker icon to mute that individual tab.

You can also right click on the that sound making tab and select the new mute tab action from the context menu.

Note: Though Chrome Flags features are considered unstable causing frequent crashes, this feature is safe to use. The tab mute has been present bug free since last few months but Google is deliberately not including it as default setting. The reason quoted by Google is that they do not want Chrome to implement restrictions on websites behavior instead want the user to take actions. Fair Point.
