You Can Soon Mute Video Ads on Chrome Permanently

Google Chrome is the most popular web browser in the world. In a short span of time compared to other established players, Chrome has managed to gain a massive user base. What makes this even more special is that Chrome has retained their user base too. It does so with the help of frequent updates and improvements. The latest such update is on its way which will allow the users to mute video ads permanently!

Nobody likes annoying, auto-playing video ads. They are distracting and plain irritating. Google is now working on a new tool which will allow the users to permanently mute websites which auto play video ads. The feature is currently under development and is being tested by the users of Chrome Canary.

Chrome Canary is like the alpha version of Google Chrome – all the major updates begin here, then move on to the Chrome Beta and finally to the stable version of the browser. This process usually takes months. However it is good to see a solution for these annoying video ads finally being developed by Google.

For the users of Chrome Canary, the feature is disabled by default but can be enabled by running the  “–enable-features=SoundContentSetting” switch. After this switch is enabled, users of Chrome Canary would be able to permanently mute these websites from the site information section – the one that is just before https:// in the URL bar. Clicking there would show a new ‘Sound’ option which would allow users to block audio on these websites.

This experimental feature for Chrome Canary was announced by François Beaufort, a Chrome evangelist on Google+. As of now there’s no word on when the update would be making its way to the Google Chrome Beta channel or on the stable channel. Chrome is constantly improving it’s offerings. (You might want to check out the new Chrome Home UI which is coming to the browser soon)
