Android Oreo OS started rolling out last week. Along with the updates, bug reports too, are on the rise. Earlier this week we reported about how an Android Oreo Bug was causing data consumption even when Wi-Fi was connected. A new bug which we have come across causes trouble when it comes to syncing e-mails.
A number of users have reported this issue in the Pixel Users Community on Google’s product forums. The problem is reportedly causing Gmail to continuously sync in the background while it does not result in updating the mails. This is happening only with the users of exchange mails and not with those using regular e-mail on Gmail.
The Gmail app keeps running in the background but every time users try to check for new mails, they see the same old emails. Despite showing a constant sync notification, the exchange accounts are not syncing with Gmail. This is an Android Oreo specific problem and is being experienced by a lot of users who have updated their Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones to Android 8.0.0 OS.
Currently, the only way around this Android Oreo bug is to open your account via a web browser or via PC. However we expect the fix to this problem to roll out soon, possibly over this week itself. This is expected to come out as a server side switch and no app update would be required.
Users have tried everything from re-installing the app to performing a factory reset on the phone. However the problem with the Exchange sync with Gmail continues even after all these attempts. Google representatives on the forums have been trying to help users but to no avail. Now that Google is aware of the problem, it is expected that a fix for this might come out soon. Users have taken to social media, product forums and also provided feedback via the Gmail app. However a formal response from Google is still awaited.
