Indian Google Assistant Now Supports Apps!

The Google Assistant has become a game-changer for Google in the long run. It is the most effective tool that Google has in its arsenal in the race for AI. Google has been expanding the support for various features of the Google Assistant across geographies – ultimately aiming at making it a globally accessible tool. Google has now announced that the assistant can now support apps in Indian English!

These ‘apps’ on the Assistant will be powered by Actions on Google, which is the developer platform for the Google Assistant. Users will soon be able to make better use of the assistant than ever before!

Actions on Google is platform which was launched by Google in late 2016, allowing developers to create apps on the Google Assistant platform, which do not need to be installed. Users can directly interact with the app by saying, ‘OK Google! Talk to [app]’. So far, Indian English was not supported and hence there were no apps that Indian users could make use of. However, starting today, the doors have been opened for development of apps for the Indian users.

Moreover, this is not just limited to Android devices! Users who use the Google Assistant on iPhones too, will be able to make use of these voice controlled apps.

India is one of the key markets for Google and the company has been working hard towards empowering the citizens to get more active on the internet. Google has also been working in key strategic alliances with the Indian government helping aim digitization of the citizens as well as of the economy.

The arrival of support for Indian English for Google Assistant clearly means one thing – that Google might soon be working on launching the Google Home in India! With Amazon Echo already in India, Google is eyeing at launching the Google Home here and capture the markets of voice-controlled devices.
