Typography Improved, Auto-Redirects Blocked in Chrome 64

Google Chrome is one of the most frequently updated services from Google. The company makes it a point to release one update for their browser every six weeks on an average. Some of these updates tend to bring around minor, unnoticeable changes on the user’s end while there are other updates which bring out bigger improvements. The latest update is all set to come out in the next few weeks as Chrome 64 begins to reach the stable channel. Chrome 64, which is currently in the developer channel is all set to bring out two significant changes –

Malicious Auto Redirects Blocked

Don’t you hate it when you get redirected to scammy looking web pages while you are browsing another website? Starting Chrome 64, Google Chrome will block all surprise attempts at auto-redirects. Google is calling them ‘trick to click’ experiences where the aim is to trick the users into clicking on ads.

Starting this update to Google Chrome, when a web page tries to surprise you into auto redirecting to another webpage, your browser will now show a notification – ‘Redirect Blocked’. While this is the improvement in Chrome 64, in Chrome 65 Google will address those websites which trick users into popups by changing their existing webpage into the popup while the actual page goes into the next tab.

Typography Changes

Another change is coming to Google Chrome with the Chrome 64 update. This is a small change and might miss you if you’re not a keen observer, or don’t really use Chrome much. However, for those who work in arts, or have a particular interest in typography, or simply have an OCD – this is a remarkable change.

The underlined text in Chrome will now leave out hanging text instead of striking through it. This is a small change but improves the overall look and feel of the browser. It is attention to detail around small changes like these that make Google such a powerhouse. Stay tuned with us for more details.
