I recently upgraded my computer to Windows 8.1 and have installed all the updates but something is changing my Windows update settings. Although I keep the settings to “Check for updates but let me choose whether to download them or install them”, they keep changing back to “Never check for updates”.

At first I thought it was just after a reboot but today it happened multiple times. I installed Winpatrol to see if I could see what was making this change but all I get is a warning saying a change has been detected. I have already done virus scan (I am using bit defender total security), also used MalwareBytes and SUPERAntiSpyware for scans but found no viruses or anything. I also used online scanners (ESET NOD32 and FSecure). Still nothing. I also did sfc/scannow still nothing. The change is random and sometimes happens and sometimes does not happen at all. I posted about this on eightforums and did everything but still the problem persists. I do not want to have to reinstall windows again and reinstall all my other programs. I appreciate all the help I can get, thank you.

After seeing that my silverlight plugin crashes every time I go to a certain site, I decided to research my plugins. I found I have 27 different plugins. How can I tell which ones to keep and which ones I can disable? Some are easy to tell what they are but others aren’t.

Thanks in advance!

How to fix website display problems for XDA and other sites?

http://ift.tt/1iZHv9S

Recently I’ve been having trouble with my Internet connection.

To be specific, there are 2 main problems.

  1. A site I rely on a lot opens all weird, with wrong orientation, no theme, just weirdly placed hyperlinks with no images (forum.xda-developers.com). I’ve tried it in Chrome, Firefox & IE11. I’ve tried switching the modem on & off, using CCleaner to clear out all the past cookies, cache & browsing history. I also tried opening in incognito mode with all the plugins off. As a last resort I even formatted my laptop. But still it’s the same.

  2. On some sites, here and there the images have stopped loading and I get that non loaded broken image icon.

Any ideas on what I can do?

Also I’ve no knowledge whatsoever about networking, I don’t even know how to check my IP address (except visiting whatsmyip.com), so please be descriptive if your solution has something to do with something ‘networky’.

Thanks!
