It’s working — sort of?Facebook said today that 15 percent of its revenue in the first quarter came from either advertising or payments tied to Zynga games.* That’s down from 19 percent during the same time a year earlier.About 11 of the 15 percent in revenue was from the 30 percent revenue share Facebook takes from transactions in Zynga games on the platform or advertising that Zynga directly paid Facebook for. Another 4 percent comes from advertising shown alongside Zynga content.Facebook continues to emphasize that any bad blood between the two companies could hurt financial results. Zynga recently overhauled its site as a web destination for gaming that it hopes will attract users away from the Facebook canvas. The social network is still powering payments for the site, however, meaning that Zynga is still paying Facebook its 30 percent share.“Zynga may choose to try to migrate users from existing Facebook-integrated games to other websites or platforms,” Facebook said in an updated filing for an initial public offering. “We may fail to maintain good relations with Zynga or Zynga may decide to reduce or cease its investments in games on the Facebook Platform. If the use of Zynga games on our Platform declines for these or other reasons, our financial results may be adversely affected.”

<div class="custm_img_blk"><img src="http://www.techgig.com/files/photo_1335232056_temp.png" border="0" align="left" /></div>Mobile phone group Vodafone has agreed to buy Cable & Wireless Worldwide (CWW) for 1.04 billion pounds ($1.9 billion), giving it a British fixed-line network to relieve the strain on its wireless operations from data-hungry smartphone users.  The world's biggest mobile phone operator by revenue said on Monday buying corporate telecoms specialist CWW would make it a leading player in both fixed-line and mobiletelecom services to Britain's businesses, and it could make cost savings by using CWW's networks, both in the UK and internationally.  Vodafone is offering CWW shareholders, who have had a torrid time since the group split from the former Cable & Wireless in March 2010, 38 pence a share in cash, a 92 percent premium to the price before it declared its interest in February.  CWW has issued three profit warnings, had the same number of chief executives and has suspended its dividend since it split.  Vodafone can use CWW's 20,500 kilometres of fibre cables to shift data from its wireless network, which is under strain as more and more people use data-hungry smartphones.  The mobile giant currently rents fixed lines for such capacity from the likes of CWW and BT.  The deal also boosts Vodafone's enterprise business with the addition of contracts to provide voice, data and hosting services to British government departments and companies, and it gains CWW's international cable network.  India's Tata Communications was also in talks to buy CWW, but withdrew last week when the two sides could not agree on a price. It was said to have indicated it could offer 35 pence a share.  Shares in CWW rose 16.7 percent to 37.3 pence in early trade, reflecting shareholders' relief that a bid had materialised after Vodafone was granted three extensions by Britain's takeover panel. Vodafone's shares were broadly flat.

::::Trai proposes high 2G auction base price::::

<div class="custm_img_blk"><img src="http://www.techgig.com/files/photo_1335231773_temp.png" border="0" align="left" /></div>Trai on Monday proposed a sharply-higher-than expected base price for an auction of 2G radio spectrum, after a court order to cancel all telecoms permits awarded in a scandal-tainted 2008 sale and redistribute them through open bidding.  The regulator proposed a base price of 36.22 billion rupees ($695 million) for every megahertz of spectrum in the 1,800 mega hertz band, where radio airwaves will be made available after the cancellation of the licences.  This is a steep increase from about $320 million each that carriers paid for at least 4.4 mega hertz of all-India spectrum in the earlier grant process, a price which a state auditor said was "unbelievably low".  The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) also proposed that the auction should be open to all eligible carriers holding spectrum below a prescribed cap.  The regulator's recommendations are not binding on the government, which has the final say on the auction rules. <div class="custm_img_blk"><img src="http://www.techgig.com/files/photo_1335232142_temp.png" border="0" align="left" /></div>Norwegian Telenor Group, which is looking for a new partner to continue its telecom services in India, plans to invest up to Rs 2,000 crore more even as it is taking all steps to secure Rs 14,500 crore already pumped into Uninor, the joint venture with Indian realty firm Unitech.  Uninor managing director Sigve Brekke told reporters here Saturday that Telenor is committed to continue the services with a new partner, replacing Delhi-based Unitech.  Hopeful of finding an early solution to the situation arising out of the cancellation of the company's 2G telecom licences by the Supreme Court, he said while continuing the arbitration in Singapore for separation with Unitech, they were in talks with four to five companies in India.  Declining to name the companies, Sigve said they were looking for a partner, who is not a telecom operator and who is keen to have a long-term commitment.  The new partner will have 26 percent stake in the company as Telenor has decided to increase its equity from 67 percent to 74 percent.  Stating that Telenor has already made substantial investment into Uninor, Sigve said they need to secure the investment. "We need to do whatever we can to secure this huge investment," he said, to queries about a notice served by Telenor to India in March under the bilateral treaty.  India has six months to sort out the issue under the bilateral treaty. Sigve noted that they already had positive dialogue with the Indian government, and the prime ministers of India andNorway also discussed the issue.  Telenor has plans to invest another Rs 1,000 crore to Rs 2,000 crore. "The subsequent investment will be from the cash reserves of the company," said Sigve who is hopeful of company turning profitable in the first half of 2013 as originally envisaged.
