Android 8.1 Will Show You The Speed of Your Wi-Fi Connection

Google has been tweaking a number of things in the way Wi-Fi works – recent updates to the Android OS allow you to do much more than ever before. The last major update to Android allowed you to connected to trusted connections even when your Wi-Fi was turned off. The latest update, which comes with Android 8.1 will show you the speed of your Wi-Fi connection.

Google will show you four speeds for your Wi-Fi connection in Android 8.1:

  • Slow = 0 – 1 Mbps
  • OK = 1 Mbps – 5 Mbps
  • Fast = 5 Mbps – 20 Mbps
  • Very Fast = 20 Mbps+

Here’s what these speeds indicate:

  • Slow: You can make phone calls and send texts.
  • OK: You can read webpages, use social media, and stream music.
  • Fast: You can stream most videos.
  • Very Fast: You can stream very high-quality videos.

This is quite an interesting update and another reason as to why we are eagerly awaiting the Android 8.1 OTA! For those of you who’d like to manually install Android 8.1, Google has uploaded the factory images.
